Alternative text describing the book cover

This is the website for Navigating the Night, a workshop at GISRUK2024 by Dr. Elisabetta Pietrostefani from the University of Liverpool. This workshops is sponsored by the RGS-IBG Quantitative Methods Research Group (QMRG). The theme of the GISRUK 2024 is GIS for public good: data, theory, policy.

The session introduces students to raster data focusing on night lights. Night time satellite images show luminosity - i.e. the brightness of a place at night. The idea is that luminosity correlates strongly with economic activity and can be especially useful in data poor contexts where other economic data is not collected.
