Pre-Hackathon Meeting

One online pre-hackathon meeting will take place on Thursday 18 or Friday 19 June 2026. The exact date will be confirmed with participants in advance.

This session covers:

  • Meeting your team and agreeing on roles
  • Confirming your chosen problem statement
  • Walkthrough of the data packs and access via Zotera
  • Q&A with the organising team

Expected Outputs

Each team produces one of the following, depending on their chosen problem statement:

1. Pakistan Digital Traces SitRep (Replicate and Refine)
A new Situation Report for the 2022 Pakistan floods, following the same structure as the Colombia and Indonesia SitReps presented on Day 1. Teams should include analytical notes on methodology, data limitations, and validation against IOM DTM figures. The goal is a report that could sit alongside the existing SitReps as a third country example.

2. Interactive SitRep (Make It Interactive)
A storymap or interactive map that brings a Situation Report to life for a non-technical policy audience. Users should be able to explore displacement data dynamically — filtering by geography, time, or severity. The best outputs will be linked from future SitReps via QR code.

3. Anticipatory Action Analysis (See It Coming)
A piece of analysis or prototype tool exploring early warning signals, vulnerability mapping, or anticipatory indicators using historical Pakistan flood data. Outputs may take the form of a short analytical report, a notebook, or a dashboard — whatever best communicates the findings to an operational audience.

All outputs should be accompanied by a short presentation (5 slides maximum) for the Day 3 final session, and teams are strongly encouraged to share any code via GitHub repository.

Note

Recognition and publication
All team contributions incorporated into future published works will be acknowledged. Outputs will feed into a forthcoming policy paper on digital trace data for humanitarian action. Teams whose SitReps are refined to publication standard will be supported to publish them on ReliefWeb — as the Iran conflict SitRep was in early 2026.
